There are no major complications associated with colon cleansing but there are some minor risks and complications that can occur due to carelessness. If insertion is not done properly then the chances of gastrointestinal perforation can increase. And if the equipments are not sterilized properly then the chances of amoebic infection can also rise. If colon cleansing is done repetitively then the chances or risk of anemia or malnutrition also become high. There is some connection with heart or cardiac problem if use of enemas is frequent i.e. any mistake can lead to heart attack or even heart failure.
